Understanding the Criminal Justice and Health Care Needs of Latinx Victims of Hate Crime and Bias Victimization (2023)

Northeastern University

This project is surveying Latinx adults who have experienced bias victimization to evaluate their health concerns, health risk behaviors, and access to health services.

My role: Senior Graduate Researcher
-Contributed to NIJ grant application
-Advise two junior RA's, assist in the development of quantitative and qualitative survey and interview material, collect and write IRB material, facilitate coordination between grant partners and community agencies.  

Understanding the Physical and Psychological Health and Wellness Needs of Minor Sex Trafficking Victims (2023)

This project is surveying minor sex trafficking survivors to evaluate their health concerns, health risk behaviors, and access to health services.

My role: Senior Graduate Researcher
-Contributed to NIJ grant application
-Collect and revise the IRB material, advise and assist one junior RA, help develop the quantitative and qualitative survey and interview materials, create all quantitative survey components in Qualtrics, facilitate coordination between grant partners and community agencies,  conduct both quantitative and qualitative field data collection, assist with data screening and preliminary analysis.

Understanding and Measuring Bias Victimization against Latinos: Longitudinal Examinations of Victimization Experiences of Latinos (LEVEL) (2021)

This longitudinal study determined the rate at which Latinx adults experience hate crimes and bias victimization, the degree to which bias victimization survivors seek help, and the subsequent mental health impact of these experiences.

My role: Co-Lead Graduate Researcher
-Contributed to NIJ grant application
-Collected and revised the IRB material, worked with co-lead RA on the development of the quantitative and qualitative survey and interview materials, created all quantitative survey components in Qualtrics, facilitated coordination between grant partners and community agencies,  conducted both quantitative and qualitative field data collection, assisted with continuous data screening, analyses, report writing, and  writing of peer-reviewed manuscripts. 

Organ Trade in the U.S.: An Exploratory Study (2019)

This qualitative study sought to understand medical professionals perceptions regarding organ trade and trafficking in the U.S.

My role: Co-Lead Graduate Fellow
-Worked with co-fellow on the development of the study proposal application, IRB application and relevant materials, the qualitative interview guide,  initiated all connection with relevant study participants,  conducted all qualitative interviews, qualitatively coded and analyzed findings, and conducted all writing of both a report and peer-reviewed manuscript. 

Understanding Bias Crimes Against Latinos (2019)

The primary goal of this research is to understand the prevalence of bias-motivated victimization against Latinx individuals.

My role: Co-Lead Graduate Researcher
-Worked with co-lead RA on the development of the quantitative and qualitative survey and interview materials, revised all quantitative survey components in Qualtrics, facilitated coordination between grant partners and community agencies,  conducted both quantitative and qualitative field data collection, assisted with continuous data screening, analyses, report writing, and  writing of peer-reviewed manuscripts. 

Capturing Human Trafficking Through Crime Reporting (2018)

This project was an examination of official reporting of human trafficking cases

My Role: Graduate Research Assistant
-Worked within the Boston Police Department to code human trafficking police reports
-Assisted in quantitative and qualitative field data collection,  coordinated with community agencies across study sites, participated in all analyses, reports, and contributed to peer-reviewed publications.
